So who is A Travellers Footsteps?
My name is Lucy Frank, I am a 23 year old Australian who started travelling the world alone at 18. I created A Travellers Footsteps to share my journey, inspire other people to travel and to provide information on the cheapest and safest way to do so.
Ever since I can remember, I have had a yearning desire to explore the world. Being born and raised in Australia, and originally coming from a country town, I have always been curious as to what else is out there. My first travel adventure didn’t satisfy this feeling instead it sparked a growing passion that gets stronger and stronger with every place I visit.
After finishing high school, I immediately started studying a Bachelor of Business. In my first semester at University things just didn’t feel right, so at the age of 18 I sold everything I owned, packed my bags and set off on a solo adventure around the world. This turned out to be the best decision I ever made.
I started in Canada where I lived for 12 months on a working Holiday Visa, exploring America and Mexico in my spare time. I then returned to the Gold Coast and completed another year of my degree before again deferring to backpack around Canada, America, Mexico, Central America and South America. Again, I returned to the Gold Coast to compete my degree, sneaking in a semester of exchange in Hawaii. I have now graduated with a Bachelor of Business majoring in Marketing and Sustainable Tourism.
As I finished my degree, I was convinced I had all the travel out of my system. I prepared to begin my 9-5 career, settle down and buy a house, taking the standard 4 weeks of holidays per year.
I am now less than 12 months into my working life, and although I do love my job, I have come to the realisation that this lifestyle isn’t for me. Every day I wake up, I have a quick breakfast before running off the gym. I arrive at work, sit in the same chair for 8 hours of the day, get stuck in peak hour traffic for 1 hour on the way home, cook my dinner then crash out on the couch before doing it all again.
No matter how satisfying a job may be, this lifestyle isn’t. I believe that my future is in my hands, so that is why I am taking control of my future and following my dreams. I don’t want an ordinary life, I want an extraordinary life, so I am making it happen, one step at a time.
“Intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings.” – Salvador Dali
Thinking about the future excites me greatly. I know I have the ability to do anything I want with my life, and the options I have excite me profoundly, as your future should excite you.
I want to explore the world, so I am saving for my next long term adventure. Who said money doesn’t buy you happiness?
In the meantime I will continue working full time while I develop my blog and online community. My dream is to create a job for myself that allows me to work online, from anywhere in the world, at whatever time I want, preferably in a bikini at all times.
How I plan to monetise my blog, I am still deciding, but whatever I decide will be aligned with what I am passionate about. As they say, find a job you love and you will never work a day of your life. That’s the plan!
