Bali has quickly become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, and it’s really no surprise why. Bali, often referred to as the island of the gods has something to offer everyone. Visitors can choose between the white sand beaches on the Gili Islands, surf breaks in Uluwatu and rice fields in Ubud, just to name a few. When planning a trip to Bali, there are lots of destination options for visitors. But these are the 5 best destinations in Bali that you MUST add to your itinerary.
When I think of tropical paradise, I think of Gili Air. The laid-back atmosphere, crystal clear waters and delicious food on Gili Air make it the ideal destination in Bali for relaxation. Any trip to Bali should include 2 days in Gili Air. One day for relaxing and exploring the island by bike and another day for snorkelling in the pristine waters and coral reefs surrounding the island.
When visiting the Gili Islands, you have three options: Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air. Gili Air is my island of choice because it is a mix of both Gili Trawangan, known for partying and Gili Meno, known for relaxation. Gili Air offers the best of both worlds. See my guide to Gili Air.
Ubud is where you want to go for amazing food, yoga and rice field adventures. Other attractions in Ubud include the monkey forest and stunning temples. I love Ubud but I must warn you that it is quite busy, which tends to shock alot of people. See my Quick Guide to Ubud.
Canguu is quickly becoming the most popular destination in Bali, rivalling Seminyak which has previously been the place to be. Digital nomads and travellers of all kind head to Canguu for the dining options, nightlife and affordable luxury. See my guide to Canggu here.
Uluwatu is famous for surfing. Got to love sitting at single fin, watching the sunset over the ocean and the waves breaking perfectly. The beaches of Uluwatu are surrounded by cliffs, which makes them difficult to access, but creates amazing views. Make sure you visit Uluwatu temple. If you don’t surf, there isn’t a lot to do so a couple of days in the region should satisfy. My favourite beach in the region is Dreamland.
The Nusa Islands are much bigger than the Gili Islands and have less of a tropical vibe, however, are equally as beautiful, just in a different way. Nusa Lembongan is the main island, which is connected to Nusa Ceningan by a bridge. You also have Nusa Penida that can be accessed by boat and is home to Kelingking Beach, one of the most famous spots in Bali. The Nusa islands are popular for scuba diving, snorkelling, surfing and exploring beaches and viewpoint by bike.
Key highlights on Nusa Lembongan include snorkelling with the mantras and at Mangrove Point, Devils Tears and Panorama Point. On Nusa Ceningan highlights include Secret Beach and Blue Lagoon. See more things to do in Nusa Lembongan. And if you plan on visiting Nusa Penida for a day trip, this is my day trip guide.
