Tallebudgera Creek – Gold Coast

Tallebudgera creek

Paradise awaits at Tallebudgera Creek, one of the Gold Coasts most pristine waterways. When I was growing up we would take the boat down to Tallebudgera Creek and water ski and tube in the river, then enjoy a BBQ lunch by the creek side. This is one of my favourite ways to spend a day. Today I wanted to highlight the range of activities you can enjoy with your friends and family at Tallebudgera Creek.

Things to do at Tallebudgera Creek

Swimming in Tallebudgera Creek

Tallebudgera Creek is a great place to cool off on a hot summer’s day.

You will find patrolled beaches on the south side of the creek, outside of the front of the Tallebudgera Recreation Centre.

Echo Beach on the North side is another great place to relax and swim and is usually more quiet, but unpatrolled.

You can swim anywhere along the river, but these two areas are the most popular.

Photo below was taken at Echo Beach.

Stand Up Paddle Board or Kayak

You can hire a stand-up paddleboard from the Chenye Horan shop front on the South side of the river near the Tallebudgera Recreation Centre. Cruise up and down the river on a stand-up paddleboard or head out to the river mouth to catch some waves, if you are experienced.

Boating, water-skiing, wakeboarding and tubing

You can put your boat or Jet ski into the water on the South and North side of the river, inland from the bridge.  There is a designated area for water sports such as water skiing and wakeboarding, or you can head up the river to enjoy some fishing in peace.

Hike into Burleigh Heads National Park

From the north side of Tallebudgera Creek, you can hike into Burleigh Heads National Park and up to Tumgun lookout. Burleigh Heads National Park is my favourite Gold Coast National Park as it gives you a taste of everything the Gold Coast has to offer. See my guide to hiking in Burleigh Heads National Park.

BBQ along Tallebudgera Creek

Along the river on the inland side of the bridge, you will find BBQ areas open to the public. I couldn’t think of a better place to enjoy a BBQ lunch with friends.

Jump off Tallebudgera Bridge

This one is for the thrill seekers. Tallebudgera is a popular place to go bridge jumping. More likely than not, you will see youngsters jumping off the bridge at the North end of the bridge on the ocean facing side. This can be a lot of fun, but you must always consider your safety before jumping.

Packing for a day at Tallebudgera Creek

I suggest taking a backpack filled with swimmers, towel, change of clothes, hiking shoes, snacks and water. If you are really prepared I would also suggest preparing for a BBQ down by the river.

Getting to Tallebudgera Creek

There are a number of places to park and areas to explore along Tallebudgera Creek. I suggest parking along Awoonga Ave. Here you will find a BBQ area and can walk over to Echo Beach and Burleigh Heads National Park with ease. If you would like to hire a stand-up paddle board, you will be better off parking on the South side of the river at the Gold Coast Recreation centre
