Oregon Coast Road Trip Guide

Oregon Coast Road trip

Road tripping down the West Coast of America was by far one of my favourite experiences. With low to no expectation, I was extremely satisfied by the beauty of Oregon’s Coastline. This blog highlights the best places to stop on an Oregon Coast Road Trip.

The Best stops on an Oregon Coast Road Trip (heading South on the 101).

 1) Ecola State Park. Located just across the Washington border on Oregon’s northern coastline. We pulled in, not sure where we were going or what to expect and to our surprise we ended up here…..

I think the pictures say a thousand words for this destination!

You can visit this view point or you can venture down to Indiana Beach, 1.5 miles in the opposite direction. Why not check out both spots.

I would recommend camping here for a night or two on your Oregon Coast Road Trip, it is truly gorgeous.

2) Just down the road we came across Cannon Beach, a town with so much natural beauty. Cannon Beach is a great place to grab lunch and enjoy the sunshine and stunning views.

We stopped by the visitor center in Cannon Beach where we got some invaluable information about Orgeon and suggestions for our Oregon Coast Road trip. I highly recommend stopping at the information centre and getting the “Mile by Mile” guide of Oregon’s coast.

3) Three Capes Loop scenic drive is a road off the 101 that passes through Cape Kiwanda, Cape Lookout and Cape Meares then connects back to the 101. This scenic drive takes you along the coast and doesn’t add too many miles to your trip.  If you have the time I’d definitely take this scenic route along Oregons Coast.

4) Drift Creek Falls Trail is inland 12 miles from the 101, taking you to a 240-foot suspension bridge overlooking a 75-foot waterfall. The 1.5 miles hike to the suspension bridge is well worth it.

5) Heceta Lighthouse Viewpoint is a popular viewpoint of the famous lighthouse and dramatically formed coastline.

Top 3 hiking trails along Oregons Coast

1) Cape Lookout State Park has several stunning hiking trails available including Cape Lookout Trail, a moderately challenging 2.3 mile hike offering magnificent views of the ocean.

2) Cooks Ridge/ Gwynn Creek Loop is a moderately difficult 6.5mile round trip hike that climbs 800 feet to Cooks Ridge through old growth forests and back down along Gwynn Creek.

3) John Dellenback Dunes Trail interpretative hike takes you to some of Oregons highest sand dunes and passes through a forest island before reaching the beach. The 6-mile round trip loop is strenuous in difficulty.

Free Campgrounds to visit on your Oregon Coast Road Trip

Tillicum Beach Campground (at the 160.5 mile mark)

Rock Creek Campground (at the 174.3 mile mark)

There are MANY more paid campsites along Oregons Coast.

If I knew then what I know now, I would have planned my West Coast road trip so I had much longer in Oregon.
